Southern Arizona Homeland Security Checkpoint – Day 2

CheckpointSignThis an an update on day 2 of a suspicionless Southern Arizona checkpoint being conducted by the Department of Homeland Security. The checkpoint is currently located near mile post 146 on Arizona State Route 86 – over 40 miles North of the international border. So-called Border Patrol agents appear to be manning the checkpoint which has been in operation for at least three days – if not longer.

As reported earlier, I was stopped at this checkpoint yesterday afternoon while traveling back to Tucson, Arizona (January 8th).

The encounter was videotaped and posted online.

As I suspected, the checkpoint was still being operated this morning as I drove by (see photos in this post). All Eastbound traffic is being stopped and vehicle occupants interrogated.

Because the checkpoint is still being operated, I will be stopped again this afternoon on my way back to Tucson. I’ll follow the same procedures I have in the past and will videotape any interaction I have with Homeland Security agents.

When time and conditions permit, the results will be posted here. After all, the American people have a right to know how the Department of Homeland Security is slowly turning our country into a police state while trampling on our right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.
